Expected Learning Outcomes

Deepen and expand general knowledge of mathematics and apply it in a new non-standard environment;
Broaden and apply the knowledge of mathematical modelling for the economy and technical systems;
Broaden and apply the knowledge of reliability analysis and statistical methods for data analysis;
Identify, select and understand the state-of-the-art literature of mathematics and apply the gained knowledge to specific scientific and practical tasks;
Develop mathematical models integrating the knowledge from various fields and different mathematical modelling techniques, and analyse the modelling results assessing the model adequacy and accuracy;
Organize the process of research projects;
Analyse, understand and use mathematical methods;
Transform heuristic arguments into mathematical language; prove the propositions by using known patterns;
Critically evaluate personal results and professional experience and other persons’ activity;
Work both independently and in an interdisciplinary team, generate ideas, integrate knowledge and skills;
Convey mathematical information to specialists of different fields orally and/or in written form, critically evaluate it;
Make decisions independently;
Take moral responsibility for the results of work.

About the Programme

The aims of the Applied Mathematics programme are:

to prepare broad-minded specialists, who have strong foundation and adequate skills for applying and developing mathematical models for industry, business, finance and other areas;
to cater to the demand for mathematics professionals for the knowledge society whose knowledge has at the same time a strong foundation, domain depth and interdisciplinarity and who are able to maintain and improve the professional competence trough lifelong learning.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the programme will be able to work as systems risk and reliability analysts, data analysts, mathematical modelling specialists, researchers and lecturers.
